Where it started

The core material from where tunedmiking.net originates has been published on the 2015 March/April issue of TapeOp magazine, #106. If you are here, chances are you come from there. For those who arrived here following different directions… you can find a link to the original article that I submitted to Larry Crane, chief editor of TapeOp magazine, in the dedicated page of this blog. I am very, very thankful to Larry and all the people at TapeOp for making this happen. I don’t personally know any of them: they live in USA, I live in Italy. I first got to know the magazine when I was interning in a big recording studio in Burbank (thank you Ross!) back in 2001 and immediately thought: “Wow, this is so cool!!!”. I have been a subscriber since 2005 and I believe it helped me become a better audio engineer.

I wrote the article because after focusing on microphone placement and phase issues, I felt like I reached one point. Actually two.

I asked to myself: “Is anyone talking about these things?” I looked around, I talked to people, I searched on forums, pages, books… I found some useful information and a good deal of inaccurate information.

Then I thought: “OK, I am going to write it down precisely and I am going to share it ’cause I believe it’s good information. People should know… Maybe they already know… Let’s see what happens.”

Actually it was Giorgia who came up with the idea: “You’re such a big fan of TapeOp: why don’t you send it to them?”. Easy, uh?

tunedmiking.net is about sharing.

Comments and thoughts are VERY welcome.
